Ok, so I’ll admit, I’ve been out of the loop for a while. I’ve missed you – I really have! So now that I’m just (again) getting back into the swing of things, I just have to ask –
What the F*** is a Pinterest?!?!
This Pinterest is all over Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites and it seems like most people can’t tweet without mentioning their “Pins” or that they’ve “Pinned” something…WTF??? Is this like the new Facebook, or Google+, or…whatever?
Clearly, my curiosity was killing me. Off to Pinterest I go.
But wait – I need an invite? What sort of top-secret society can this really be if it seems like everyone is doing it. (Um, everyone but me, BTW.) Top secret…hmph!
Ok, ok…sign me up. Or…uh…put me on the list. Damn, that felt soooo early-20’s saying that. As if it should be followed with an “I’m with the DJ.” Anyway…
While I wait for my highly coveted invite, this is what I’ve learned:
“Pinterest is a virtual pinboard to organize and share the things you love.”
Sounds simple enough. The site, even without having the ability to “Pin” items, if full of cute design ideas, homemade craft items, fashion, photography and just about anything you could think of. So far, so good.
After what seemed like an eternity (a whole 5 days!), I’m finally IN!
First, let’s start with the positives:
1.) As I mentioned earlier, this site has a ton of cool I-never-would’ve-thought-of-that items and you could totally lose yourself in this application. The sheer volume of pretty neat stuff I’ve already found is staggering.
2.) You can “Pin” something from any website and add them to your boards. So, for instance, if I was looking for decorating ideas for my son’s bedroom and I found a page with a really cool design, I could “Pin” it to one of my custom boards.
And NO application would be complete without a few negatives:
1.) I would have never switched my Facebook account to “timeline view”. But since I just had to get on Pinterest, they did it for me. Boo.
2.) For a newbie Pinner (is this what we’d be called???), Pinterest can be overwhelming at first. It would be impossible to go through everything, and sometimes you’ll happen to find a great recipe, design idea, or totally random piece of awesomeness by chance. It’ll just take some getting used to.
3.) Who should I follow? So far I’m just browsing but, if you have some pretty awesome boards, let me know. I’d love to check them out and follow you too.
All-in-all, I think this is a pretty good site. It’ll take me a while to completely get used to it…and start to feel like I’m finally part of the cool kids crowd…but, as with all things, it’ll just take time. But again, let me know if you have some awesome boards for me to view – I’d love to visit your pages.
