A few weeks ago at my neighborhood block party one of my neighbors mentioned that she was “just getting back from a mud run”. A mud run, I asked? Like the one I saw the women do on Real Housewives of Orange County? I honestly never knew that “mud runs” really existed – I thought it was something they did on the show just for ratings. Little did I know, but these mud runs are hugely popular. My neighbor told me how much fun they were and, I’ll admit, I was intrigued! A “regular”run seems kinda boring to me – but this sounds like a lot of fun!
So why am I all of a sudden talking about running through the mud? That’s a pretty good question.
You should know that I am NOT a runner. At all. The closest I’ve come is walking the American Cancer Society’s Walk & Roll here in Chicago. And that wasn’t even for fitness. But after hearing about how much fun these mud runs are…
I have signed up for the Pretty Muddy Women’s Run in Orland Park, IL on Saturday, September 15th, 2012!
Gasp! Shocker, right?
As crazy as it sounds, I am really looking forward to this run. I even started a Couch to 5K program to prepare (Google it…it’s a 9 week program and the Pretty Muddy run is 9 weeks away! Perfect timing!). Here’s a little more information on this event that I WILL FINISH!
The Pretty Muddy Women’s Run is a women-only, fun, obstacle course event. It’s not timed, nor do you even have to run…you just have to sign up to have a great time and perhaps get a little muddy. Even if it isn’t a competitive race, the great thing about it is that it draws women together in a fun, muddy experience that will be a memory for a lifetime. Other cities that have hosted similar events have drawn over 5,000 women to participate! This is the first time the event will be held in the Chicago area, and I am so excited to join in on the action.
Here’s what you can expect at the event:
Pretty Muddy is a 5k adventurous obstacle course mud run for any woman
who wants to get outside, spend time with friends and have fun.
— 5k Course (3.1 miles, run or walk)
