Feeding Hungry Kiddos at Denny’s #DennysDiners

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post in collaboration with Denny’s. I am a #DennysDiners Ambassador, however, I was not asked to provide a particular point of view, and all opinions are 100% my own.

Denny’s is one of my go-to restaurants with the kids. Close to home, yummy food, and totally affordable! But more than just being affordable, did you know that kids also eat FREE at Denny’s? That’s right, at participating locations, Kids Eat Free! Awesome, right? How does it work? For each adult entrée priced at $2.50 or more, you’ll receive a free kids meal for one child aged 10 and under. The offer is available on Tuesdays at participating locations from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., and menu items and prices may vary. It’s a great way to feed the family for less.

When I visit Denny’s with the kids recently, my son was able to eat free…WOOT! He has a few favorites and some of our favorite kids items include the chicken nuggets, chocolate chip pancakes, french toast and pizza. All delicious, and all free on Tuesday nights!

On a recent visit, my son ordered the chicken nuggets and loved them with a side of goldfish crackers. We love eating at Denny’s – it’s a great opportunity to chat over a meal, without me running around the kitchen preparing everything. Plus, getting both of my kids together is always a highlight for me. It’s a challenge to get them in the same room sometimes so I cherish every time that I do. We talked, we laughed, and I actually caught my son playing with his food a bit here. Dinos say “RAWR”! Lol

So get on out to visit your local Denny’s with the kids on Tuesday nights for a free kids meal. Both you – and your wallet – will love the deal! Have you visited a Denny’s Diner lately? What’s your favorite item on the menu?

BOGO at Discovery Center Museum in Rockford!

Discovery Center Museum_Rockford

We love this children’s museum in Rockford, IL!  They have everything you’d expect at a children’s museum – without the crowds of a big city museum.  In fact, we visited last winter to check out everything the museum has to offer, then made a return visit for the Treasure Exhibit.  We have so much fun and can’t wait to go back!

The amazing Discovery Center Museum is full of over 250 exciting hands-on exhibits spread over a two-floor area.  Out in the museum’s backyard, visitors can explore Rock River Discovery Park, a giant, multi-level science park with a hands-on twist!  The museum also hosts traveling exhibits, special events and programs throughout the year.

My readers can take advantage of this special offer to the museum: Buy One General Admission and Get One Free.  Not valid with other offers. Offer valid up to 3 free admissions.

3 Easy Ways to Save Money at the Grocery Store

We’re just one month into the New Year and I’m determined to stick to my goal of saving money however I can.  It’s tough trying to pinch pennies with a family of five!  Something unexpected always comes up, and it’s usually not something you can put off until the next paycheck comes in.  A medical co-pay, or a school fee, or a tank of gas for the car.  It’s always something!  Recently I created a budget for myself, and have done surprisingly well with it, but I there’s always more I can do to save a few bucks.  My ultimate goal is to save enough to travel a few times a year – one of my absolute favorite things to do.

Follow these 3 Easy Ways to Save Money at the Grocery Store to have hundreds each year via thoughtsfromher.com.

Follow these 3 easy ways to save money at the grocery store to save hundreds of dollars each year!  Lately I’ve been studying my grocery spending and I noticed a few ways that I could be saving more each week.  I hope these lessons that I had to learn the hard way will help you out too – we could all use a few extra bucks each week, right?!?!

Create a weekly meal plan.

Then create your grocery list around that plan.  You have no idea how many unnecessary purchases have been avoided for me using my grocery list.  I go in with a plan, and I stick to it.  It’s not as laborious as it seems, I promise!  What I usually do is pick 2-3 meals that I know I’m going to make and figure out what ingredients I’ll need to make them.  The rest of my list is focused on staples that I know can easily be paired with ingredients I already have on hand, or can be used to enhance leftovers from the week.  Not throwing in the extra bag of Doritos or the box of Oreos will add up to extra savings each and every week.

Purchase meat and produce when it’s on sale.

This is one of the hardest rules for me to follow.  I used to choose my meal plans based on what I felt like cooking that week.  If I wanted to make a pot roast, I made a pot roast.  Then I started noticing that if I waited a week or two, I could’ve purchased that roast for $0.99 less per pound because it went on sale.  Purchasing your meat (and even produce) only when it’s on sale could save you hundreds every year!  Now I wait till our grocery ads come out for the week on Wednesday to pick out recipes based on what will be on sale that week.

Shop at Walmart.

Seriously.  I always thought that the “Walmart Challenge” ads were a little cheesy.  You know the ones – where they show “real moms” comparing the prices from their regular grocery stores to prices at Walmart.  Cheesy as they may be, I recently found their claims to be true.  I did a little experiment this week where I shopped at my local grocery store, and then went to Walmart to price check those same items.  My research found that Walmart carried the lowest price almost every freakin’ time!  In some instances the price difference was minimal, like $0.12 or $0.13, but other times the disparity was a bit more substantial – like $0.98 on a single item!  The only time that Walmart was beat out by my local store was if the same item was on sale.  Crazy, right?  Now keep in mind that I don’t live in a land that honors double coupons, so this might not hold true in all markets.  But Walmart’s ad match policy is good enough for me because in that one instance where my local store’s price was cheaper, all I would’ve had to do was bring in the ad to have Walmart price match.

Saving extra cash each week can be difficult, but it’s not impossible!  Incorporating a few small changes can save big bucks in the long run – just enough for me to plan my next vacation!

Day After Christmas: Holiday Reflections

Christmas came and went in a flash, didn’t it?  This year, Christmas was spent at my home filled with family and love.  Honestly, I couldn’t have asked for a better day.  My parents (divorced) were both here and I felt especially blessed because that isn’t likely to happen again any time soon.  There was lots of laughter, fantastic food (if I do say so myself), and zero drama.  Absolute perfection.

Toddler Christmas Tree

I had planned to spend the next day at home, in jammies, just watching the kids play around with all their new gifts.

Toddler Christmas Presents

My son had toys galore to keep him occupied all day.

Teen Motavator Shirt - Bethany Mota

And my daughter was most excited about the clothes, especially a new top by YouTube teen sensation, Bethany Mota.

Australian Shepherd Holiday Rawhide

Even the dogs had reason to celebrate as our new puppy, Ty, demonstrates with his giant candy cane rawhide.  (I still think he’s such a cutie…despite all the pee stains on my carpet.)

With all the excitement yesterday, I totally expected today to be a chill day.  But, the need for a few items from Sam’s Club and the Kohl’s Cash I earned while Christmas shopping burning a hole in my pocket, made it impossible to stay home.  We headed out late in the evening, though, so at least I got to spend the entire day in jammies.

A few observations I made while we were out:

Shops waste no time on getting over Christmas.  This patio set was already out at Sam’s Club today.  Um, the Chicago area won’t be ready to hang out on our decks and patios for at least  another 4-5 months.

It is a great time, however, to stock up on all your Christmas and holiday supplies for next year.  Mostly all wrapping paper and decorative items were 50% off, and even the food items are marked down nicely.

Kohl's Deals Collage

Here’s a tip, though:  If you are looking for those great deals, it’s best to get to the stores early.  Wait too long and the items you were looking for will likely be gone.  Lots of shelves were bare and many were almost there.

Thankfully there weren’t any “must-have” items on my list, I was just out to browse.  But I definitely know that if I really need something badly enough next year, I’ll be out the door bright and early.

Hopefully you got to spend the day exactly  the way you wanted to.
