GIVEAWAY: Win a Britax B-Safe 35 Car Seat #BabySafeConBritax

Disclosure: As a Britax Latina Blogger/Advisory Board Member (and in partnership with Mami Innovative Media), this post is part of a sponsored outreach. All opinions expressed are my own.

Last month I wrote about the Britax car seats that were deemed a “Best Best” by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).  I personally own the Pinnacle™ ClickTight, and couldn’t be happier with its performance.  But those seats were booster seats for older kids and I’m sure some of you were wondering “Hey, what about the little babies?”.  Well, I am pleased to announce that now, Britax is introducing new infant car seats that protect wee ones with leading safety technologies.

The new Britax B-Safe 35 Elite and B-Safe 35 infant car seats allow the newest members of the family to stay safe and comfy on the go. Parents can travel with confidence knowing that their babies can ride in the highest level of safety with Britax SafeCell Impact Protection, an integrated system of safety components that protects infants beyond government standards. The new SafeCenter LATCH Installation also provides peace of mind with a simple installation of these lightweight, streamlined infant seats.

“The new B-Safe 35 Elite offers the latest Britax safety technologies, a more modern design, and a higher weight capacity,” said Brandon Miller, senior product manager at Britax. “The advantages of our best-in-class safety and convenience features make either the B-Safe 35 Elite or B-Safe 35 the perfect choice for baby’s first ride home and beyond.”

What’s even better is that you can install these seats with confidence.  Britax designed both the B-Safe 35 Elite and B-Safe 35 to install with ease, featuring the SafeCenter LATCH Installation, which offers center-pull straps that cinch down quickly and tuck safely out of the way for stress-free installation. The Easy-On/Easy-Off LATCH Connectors feature a simple button to release both connectors. For proper positioning in the vehicle, parents will know instantly if the seat is at the correct angle by using the Dual Level Indicators and the one-handed, Spring-Assisted Recline. The infant seats can also be easily installed using the vehicle seat belt and the integrated lock-offs in the base. To ensure the best harness fit as the child grows, the B-Safe 35 Elite also features a Quick-Adjust Harness that can be lengthened with the push of a button.

These car seats are also compatible with Britax stroller lines, making family travel much easier.  New parents can move in comfort and style when pairing the B-Safe 35 Elite or B-Safe 35 with any Britax stroller as a Travel System, which offers flexibility and comfort to suit any lifestyle. Parents will appreciate the Click & Go integrated adapter system, which creates compatibility with all Britax strollers, including the Affinity, B-Ready and all B-Agile models. Both seats feature a one-handed, quick-release handle for simple and safe detachment from the strollers. Either seat is also compatible with the BOB jogging strollers, with use of an infant car seat adapter. Family travel doesn’t get any easier.

GIVEAWAY: Win a Britax BEST BET Car Seat this Holiday Season #BritaxBestBet

Disclosure: As a Britax Latina Blogger/Advisory Board Member (and in partnership with Mami Innovative Media), this post is part of a sponsored outreach. All opinions expressed are my own.

As parents, it’s a given that we all want what’s best for our kids.  You want them to eat healthy, go to a good school and, above all else, we want our kids to be safe. My four-year-old is a big kid, and putting him in the right booster seat was important to me – but it is so hard to choose which seat would be best for him.  Lucky for us, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), wants our kids to be safe too, and they’ve released a “Best Bet” booster seat category letting parents know which car seat choice would likely be their…well…best bet.

A record 27 new boosters earn highest IIHS rating

I have long been an advocate of Britax products, and I am super-proud to report that every Britax Harness-2-Booster seat earned a “BEST BET”, the top rating from the IIHS.  IIHS reviewed and rated three Britax seats — the Pinnacle™ ClickTight, Frontier™ ClickTight and Pioneer™ combination Harness-2-Booster seats— along with 41 other new for 2014 seats from various other manufacturers.  In fact, we even own a Britax Frontier and we love it – even more so now that we know that it’s one of the safest out there!

Britax Frontier 90

The IIHS rated the Britax Harness-2-Booster seats as “BEST BETs,” along with Britax’s belt-positioning booster seats, because in almost any car, minivan or SUV, they correctly position lap and shoulder belts on typical 4-to-8-year-olds.  And, as a mom of a beautiful 4-year-old boy, that means a lot to me.

Some of my favorite features of these “Best Bet” car seats include:

  • ClickTight Installation System makes car seat installation as simple as buckling a seat belt so that now everyone can install with REAL confidence in just a few easy steps.
  • True Side Impact Protection provides deep side walls and a head restraint with energy-absorbing EPP foam to distribute crash forces, shield from vehicle intrusion, and contain the head, neck and body while keeping them “in true” or aligned.
  • Base with SafeCell Technology designed to keep your child safe and secure in a crash by compressing and significantly lowering the center of gravity, reducing the forward movement of the car seat

Now, on to the good stuff…

First Day of Preschool #BTSConBritax

Disclosure: As a Britax Latina Blogger/Advisory Board Member (and in partnership with Mami Innovative Media), this post is part of a sponsored outreach. All opinions expressed are my own.

With a 15-year-old daughter, I’ve been through a lot of back-to-school days.  I’ve seen her grow from the cutest little preschooler to a beautiful young lady in high school.  Every year it’s a struggle to get used to the transition and early mornings – and there’s always a first day of school picture.  This year, though, I was a little more apprehensive than usual.  I hardly got any sleep the night before as I tossed and turned the entire night.  Because this year, you see, would be the very first time that I’d be sending my youngest off to school.

For most kids, starting school is an exciting time.  Going to school, meeting new friends and playing with new toys are all things that most kids look forward to, but for my anxiety-prone kid with sensory integration issues and difficulty with transitions, it was something he was dreading.  We tried getting him excited about his first day for weeks, but every time we would bring it up he would immediately say, “But I don’t want to go to school.  Why can’t I stay home?”, and those statements are usually accompanied by tears.  It broke my heart a little more each day.

Why couldn’t he get excited about it?  Why was he so afraid?  What more could I do to get him pumped about it?  Thoughts like those and more are what kept me up the entire night before.

When morning finally arrived, I was probably just as nervous as he was.  I was probably most afraid that he would have a meltdown at drop-off and not let me leave.  (For those of you that don’t know, my son is very loud, and neighbors down the block would likely be able to hear him if he started bawling!)

We were able to get him up, dressed, and fed without much issue, but as you can see by the red eyes and nose in the picture below, he tensed up and started crying right before we headed out the door.  I’ll be honest and say that I was thisclose to saying to hell with it all and keeping him at home.

First-Day-of-Preschool

But, if I want my son to be a “big boy”, I couldn’t let him run from his fears.  We’d both have to suck it up, get in the car, and just go.

First-Day

The car ride was fine. He wiped his tears, and I kept trying to reassure him that he was going to have an amazing day, that he’d love his teachers, and he’d get to play with some new friends.  He was letting it sink in…a little.

We arrived about 10 minutes early, and it was just enough time to let him let loose a bit, get out of his super-comfy (and super-safe, and my-shameless-plug-because-I-love-them-so-much) Britax Advocate 70 CS car seat, and take some selfies, of course!  By the time school was about to start, he had calmed down a lot, and was ready to go.

First-Day-Collage

And you know what – he did have an amazing day.

How were your kids on the first day of school?

Celebrating Summer with BRITAX #CelebrateConBritax

Disclosure: As a Britax Latina Blogger/Advisory Board Member (and in partnership with Mami Innovative Media), this post is part of a sponsored outreach. All opinions expressed are my own.

There have been so many things my family has enjoyed this summer.  We’ve tried to get out of the house as much as possible to enjoy the gorgeous (for the most part) weather.  We’ve visited parks, museums, playgrounds, water parks, restaurants, and still have a few road trips planned.  It’s exhausting, for sure, but staying in just isn’t one of my strong suits.

Here’s a look at a few of the things we’ve done so far:

We visited a farm. (Lamb’s Farm in Libertyville, IL)

Lambs_Farm_IL

We had some great food. (Rainforest Café in Gurnee, IL)

We let loose. (Ball Factory in Naperville, IL)

We hung out at a few children’s museums. (Exploration Station in Bourbonnais, IL)

And pretended to be pirates. (Exploration Station)

We visited a few parks. (Country Lakes Park in Naperville, IL)

And of course a splash pad. (Sunset Splash Pad in Lake in the Hills, IL)

And a waterpark too. (Raging Waves Waterpark in Yorkville, IL)

We even picked some strawberries. (Cody’s Farm in Marengo, IL).

Codys_Farm_IL

We’ve had a heck of a summer so far, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.  Of course, I know how fortunate we have been to be able to do all the things that my restless-self wants to do.  I’m giving my kids the education of experience and am so grateful.  So, yes, I’m celebrating my summer and all the things we’ve been able to do.

At the same time, I wouldn’t feel as secure as I have been on my (sometimes very long) excursions across the state if it wasn’t for the trust I put in Britax.  From their car seats to their stroller line, there is none other that I would trust as much as Britax.  My family’s safety is of utmost importance to me and Britax eases my mind when it comes to my little one.

Celebrate Con Britax

I still have lots more planned this summer, and I’m glad to have Britax along for the ride.

What’s your favorite memory so far this summer?

Happy Valentine’s Day! #AmorConBritax

It’s Valentine’s Day!

All week long I’ve been sharing Valentine’s Day posts, like a fun, educational Alphabet Match-Up and ideas on spending the day with your kids.  It’s one of my favorite holidays because it’s all about love…and who can’t use a little more love, right?

Love can take on many forms.  For instance, you love your husband differently than you love your kids, and you love your siblings different than, say, you love cheesecake.  But probably the most important form of love you can have is the love for yourself.  YOU are the most important person in your life and, if you’re anything like me, you need to be reminded of that sometimes.

So as I sit here, having gained a very unhealthy 20+ pounds, I think to myself…

What in the world happened to my love for ME?!?!

I used to take so much pride in the way that I looked.  I kept my weight in check, I bought nice clothes, and even glammed it up from time to time.  How sad is it that since I got married I’ve kind of been…blah.

So today, on Valentine’s Day, I realize that I need to love ME more often and start taking care of my appearance.  I have said this many times  before, but I have got to get back to loving the way that I look.  Because right now I just…don’t.  For starters, I’m going to tackle this huge ring of fat that’s hugging my midsection.  I need to work out at home, get the Britax BOB stroller out of the basement to go for a walk with my son, and start keeping track of my calorie intake.

Love-Yourself-Amor-Con-Britax

That’s it.  It’s time to love me.

Hope you all have a wonderful Valentine’s Day with the ones you love.

January Resolutions: Bloggy Style #NewYearConBritax

Making a list…checking it twice.

Wait.  That’s over, right?  Phew!  Although for me, the list making, checking off, adding items, and starting all over again lasts all year long.  I am the Queen of Lists.  The Emperor of the Agenda.  The First Lady of To-Do’s.  (Not pudgy Santa Claus, *ahem*.  Well, maybe a little pudgy.  Oh, nevermind.)

I make lists and Git-R-Done like a BOSS.  I get a rush when I cross something off my list…crazy endorphins…and it must be crossed off in red ink.  In fact, when I get done with this post – BAM! – another one down.  I just love the sense of accomplishment, ya know?

I even started my 2014 resolutions, um, I mean goals, as a list.  A list of a few goals I want to achieve this year.  Nothing unattainable, like getting healthy, working out, and a few other resolutions I know I’ll never keep long-term.  Just a couple of totally doable, “they better get done” items.

And that got me thinking…

Why don’t I have a similar set of goals for my blog?  I know that there are a few things I’d love to accomplish this year, blogging-wise, so I might as well jot them down because, knowing myself, that’s the only way they’ll get done.

2014 Blog Resolutions. Blogging goals to complete this year via thoughtsfromher.com.

So here we go…I plan to check them all off.  One by one.  I’m gonna post, photograph, promote, schedule, and improve my brand relationships.  Especially BRITAX.  ESPECIALLY  with BRITAX.  They have kept my baby safe, and they truly care about their bloggers.  So go buy BRITAX!  They don’t call them a leader in child mobile safety for nothing!

Celebrating a Multi-Cultural Holiday Season

Britax Disclosure PNG

Soon, millions of people around the world will be celebrating the holidays. It’s one of the most beautiful times of the year with sparkling holiday lights adorning homes in nearly every neighborhood and a fluffy blanket of snow covering the trees. I absolutely love the holidays. Whether it’s Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Boxing Day, or any one of the international holidays celebrated this winter, every family has their own traditions. For some families that means getting together on Christmas Day to open gifts, and for others it means leaving some milk and cookies for Santa.

Britax Happy Holidays

With my mixed ethnic background of Puerto Rican, German, and Polish, my family’s holiday traditions are a bit of a hodgepodge of cultural customs. I’m lucky to be able to pass down to my kids the traditions I grew up with – the things that made the holidays extra-special for me. Each, in their own special way, that celebrate my eclectic heritage.

Before the holidays officially begin, my kids eagerly anticipate the first of December, where we begin observing the Advent calendar, a tradition that began in Germany. Each day in December leading up to Christmas, my kids get a small treat – a nice build-up to the big day.

One of my favorite activities leading up to the holiday is baking. Each year, much to the delight of our family and friends, my mom and I bake kolacky cookies using my grandmother’s secret recipe. Traditional Polish Kolackys are light and flaky fruit-filled pastries and they are delicious. It’s one tradition that I’m glad to pass on to my kids.

Finally, my Puerto Rican heritage allows us to celebrate Dia de los Reyes, or Three Kings Day. On January 6th, Three Kings Day celebrates the three wise men that visited Christ in Bethlehem. Traditionally, children place an empty box of hay (to feed the donkeys) under their beds and wait for the three wise men to visit while they sleep and leave a small gift. While we don’t leave hay under our beds anymore, my family still gets together on Three Kings Day. It’s just another way we spend time together as a family around the holidays.

I truly hope my kids continue these traditions with their own families when they’re older. I hope they realize the importance of these traditions and they bring them closer together. I hope our traditions give deeper meaning to the holidays and they make the season more enjoyable for them. I hope our traditions become a part of who they are and that they continue to be passed down through the generations.

And I’d also like to extend a HUGE thanks and Feliz Navidad to my Britax family for helping me realize the blessing of my cultural differences. It wasn’t that long ago that I was still struggling with my cultural identity, and a trip to the Britax headquarters in May 2012 completely changed the way I viewed myself…and my background. For that, I will forever be grateful to all of you.

So no matter what you have planned this year, I hope you get to spend some time with friends and family this holiday season because, to me, that’s what the holidays are all about.

Giving Thanks this Holiday Season #ThanksgivingConBritax

Disclosure: As a Britax Latina Blogger/Advisory Board Member (and in partnership with Mami Innovative Media), this post is part of a sponsored outreach. All opinions expressed are my own.

Thanksgiving is a time for giving thanks for all the blessings we’ve had over the last year and, too often, we tend to take for granted all of the good things that happen throughout the year.  You know, the little things.  The seemingly insignificant events that take place everyday.  So far, 2013 has been pretty good to me – well, not without some setbacks – and I’d like to take the time to give thanks for all the “little things”.

So, for Thanksgiving 2013, here are a few of the “little things” I am thankful for:

Peppermint MochaThe Peppermint Mocha is now back at Starbucks.  This seasonal drink is, by far, my favorite.  The return of the Peppermint Mocha signifies the beginning of the holiday season for me (thanks, Starbucks), and I am grateful for this beverage treat.

My son has finally started to potty train.  Hallelujah!  I’ll be even more grateful when I can stop buying diapers and training pants, but I’ll take what I can get for now.  We’re moving along slowly, but I hope he can be fully trained by year-end.

Teen Beauty BlogMy daughter wants to start her own beauty & fashion blog/vlog.  I’m so proud of her!  Thanks to mommy’s small successes with blogging over the last year, she has come to see that blogging can be really fun – and she’s a total fashionista so I’m sure she’ll do great.  We’re just in the brainstorming phase right now, but hopefully she’s up and running soon.

My husband is sporting a rockin’ bod right now.  He’s been hitting the gym hard over the last few months, and I can totally see the different.  I’m really thankful because, you know…well…*WINK*

Australian Shep Mix PuppyOur little puppy is not peeing all over the carpet as much.  It is a total pain to clean up puppy pee every 30 minutes.  Let alone all the “helicoptering” that needs to be done to make sure they’re not chewing up all the toddler toys in my house!  After only 2 weeks with us, our little Ty has learned that he should go potty outside.  Smart dog.

My family is healthy and safe.  This one isn’t so “little”, but my family’s health and safety are the most important things that I am grateful for, so they both made the list.  Anything can happen in the blink of an eye and, once again, I am grateful that we are all in one piece.  2013 also prompted my renewed excitement in my relationship with the #1 child safety brand, Britax, and they’re helping me keep my little one safe on the road.  It’s all about the safety…
