GIVEAWAY: Win a Britax B-Safe 35 Car Seat #BabySafeConBritax

Last month I wrote about the Britax car seats that were deemed a “Best Best” by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).  I personally own the Pinnacle™ ClickTight, and couldn’t be happier with its performance.  But those seats were booster seats for older kids and I’m sure some of you were wondering “Hey, what about the little babies?”.  Well, I am pleased to announce that now, Britax is introducing new infant car seats that protect wee ones with leading safety technologies.

The new Britax B-Safe 35 Elite and B-Safe 35 infant car seats allow the newest members of the family to stay safe and comfy on the go. Parents can travel with confidence knowing that their babies can ride in the highest level of safety with Britax SafeCell Impact Protection, an integrated system of safety components that protects infants beyond government standards. The new SafeCenter LATCH Installation also provides peace of mind with a simple installation of these lightweight, streamlined infant seats.

“The new B-Safe 35 Elite offers the latest Britax safety technologies, a more modern design, and a higher weight capacity,” said Brandon Miller, senior product manager at Britax. “The advantages of our best-in-class safety and convenience features make either the B-Safe 35 Elite or B-Safe 35 the perfect choice for baby’s first ride home and beyond.”

What’s even better is that you can install these seats with confidence.  Britax designed both the B-Safe 35 Elite and B-Safe 35 to install with ease, featuring the SafeCenter LATCH Installation, which offers center-pull straps that cinch down quickly and tuck safely out of the way for stress-free installation. The Easy-On/Easy-Off LATCH Connectors feature a simple button to release both connectors. For proper positioning in the vehicle, parents will know instantly if the seat is at the correct angle by using the Dual Level Indicators and the one-handed, Spring-Assisted Recline. The infant seats can also be easily installed using the vehicle seat belt and the integrated lock-offs in the base. To ensure the best harness fit as the child grows, the B-Safe 35 Elite also features a Quick-Adjust Harness that can be lengthened with the push of a button.

These car seats are also compatible with Britax stroller lines, making family travel much easier.  New parents can move in comfort and style when pairing the B-Safe 35 Elite or B-Safe 35 with any Britax stroller as a Travel System, which offers flexibility and comfort to suit any lifestyle. Parents will appreciate the Click & Go integrated adapter system, which creates compatibility with all Britax strollers, including the Affinity, B-Ready and all B-Agile models. Both seats feature a one-handed, quick-release handle for simple and safe detachment from the strollers. Either seat is also compatible with the BOB jogging strollers, with use of an infant car seat adapter. Family travel doesn’t get any easier.

GIVEAWAY: Win a Britax BEST BET Car Seat this Holiday Season #BritaxBestBet

As parents, it’s a given that we all want what’s best for our kids.  You want them to eat healthy, go to a good school and, above all else, we want our kids to be safe. My four-year-old is a big kid, and putting him in the right booster seat was important to me – but it is so hard to choose which seat would be best for him.  Lucky for us, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), wants our kids to be safe too, and they’ve released a “Best Bet” booster seat category letting parents know which car seat choice would likely be their…well…best bet.

A record 27 new boosters earn highest IIHS rating

I have long been an advocate of Britax products, and I am super-proud to report that every Britax Harness-2-Booster seat earned a “BEST BET”, the top rating from the IIHS.  IIHS reviewed and rated three Britax seats — the Pinnacle™ ClickTight, Frontier™ ClickTight and Pioneer™ combination Harness-2-Booster seats— along with 41 other new for 2014 seats from various other manufacturers.  In fact, we even own a Britax Frontier and we love it – even more so now that we know that it’s one of the safest out there!

Britax Frontier 90

The IIHS rated the Britax Harness-2-Booster seats as “BEST BETs,” along with Britax’s belt-positioning booster seats, because in almost any car, minivan or SUV, they correctly position lap and shoulder belts on typical 4-to-8-year-olds.  And, as a mom of a beautiful 4-year-old boy, that means a lot to me.

Some of my favorite features of these “Best Bet” car seats include:

  • ClickTight Installation System makes car seat installation as simple as buckling a seat belt so that now everyone can install with REAL confidence in just a few easy steps.
  • True Side Impact Protection provides deep side walls and a head restraint with energy-absorbing EPP foam to distribute crash forces, shield from vehicle intrusion, and contain the head, neck and body while keeping them “in true” or aligned.
  • Base with SafeCell Technology designed to keep your child safe and secure in a crash by compressing and significantly lowering the center of gravity, reducing the forward movement of the car seat

Now, on to the good stuff…

Giving Thanks this Holiday Season #ThanksgivingConBritax

Thanksgiving is a time for giving thanks for all the blessings we’ve had over the last year and, too often, we tend to take for granted all of the good things that happen throughout the year.  You know, the little things.  The seemingly insignificant events that take place everyday.  So far, 2013 has been pretty good to me – well, not without some setbacks – and I’d like to take the time to give thanks for all the “little things”.

So, for Thanksgiving 2013, here are a few of the “little things” I am thankful for:

Peppermint MochaThe Peppermint Mocha is now back at Starbucks.  This seasonal drink is, by far, my favorite.  The return of the Peppermint Mocha signifies the beginning of the holiday season for me (thanks, Starbucks), and I am grateful for this beverage treat.

My son has finally started to potty train.  Hallelujah!  I’ll be even more grateful when I can stop buying diapers and training pants, but I’ll take what I can get for now.  We’re moving along slowly, but I hope he can be fully trained by year-end.

Teen Beauty BlogMy daughter wants to start her own beauty & fashion blog/vlog.  I’m so proud of her!  Thanks to mommy’s small successes with blogging over the last year, she has come to see that blogging can be really fun – and she’s a total fashionista so I’m sure she’ll do great.  We’re just in the brainstorming phase right now, but hopefully she’s up and running soon.

My husband is sporting a rockin’ bod right now.  He’s been hitting the gym hard over the last few months, and I can totally see the different.  I’m really thankful because, you know…well…*WINK*

Australian Shep Mix PuppyOur little puppy is not peeing all over the carpet as much.  It is a total pain to clean up puppy pee every 30 minutes.  Let alone all the “helicoptering” that needs to be done to make sure they’re not chewing up all the toddler toys in my house!  After only 2 weeks with us, our little Ty has learned that he should go potty outside.  Smart dog.

My family is healthy and safe.  This one isn’t so “little”, but my family’s health and safety are the most important things that I am grateful for, so they both made the list.  Anything can happen in the blink of an eye and, once again, I am grateful that we are all in one piece.  2013 also prompted my renewed excitement in my relationship with the #1 child safety brand, Britax, and they’re helping me keep my little one safe on the road.  It’s all about the safety…

So what are you thankful for this year?

The Traveling Family: Safety First!

Disclosure: As a Britax Latina Blogger/Advisory Board Member (and in partnership with Mami Innovative Media), this post is part of a sponsored outreach. All opinions expressed are my own.

I’ve traveled a lot (so far) this year.  Well, I mean, traveled a lot for me I guess.  Usually I’m lucky if I can get out of town once or twice a year, and this year I’ve been out of the Chicago area SIX times already…with another trip planned for the fall.  I’m a lucky gal!  Traveling has become one of my absolute favorite things to do, and I love taking my family on for the ride.

Pure Michigan

Our most recent family road trip was to the Grand Rapids, MI area and my entire family had a blast!  It’s not easy keeping both a toddler and a teen entertained, but Grand Rapids did just that.  We visited museums, a beach, a pool, a zoo, a park, and dined at some pretty fabulous restaurants.  An awesome family trip.

BRITAX Michigan

I thought our time would be a little too jam-packed for my toddler (because Momma is a Type-A, itinerary-having junkie) but he loved every minute of it.  The most important tip I can share when traveling with toddlers is: make sure you plan for naptime.  So even though our schedule was full, my boy’s naptime was definitely planned.  It allowed for a much smoother transition going from place to place.

This trip to Grand Rapids was also my son’s first road trip lasting more than 3 hours.  We were really nervous that he’d give us trouble on the way, but surprisingly he took it all in stride.  Aside from the obligatory potty breaks, we tried to keep our stops to a minimum.  Worked out great!

And I know one thing that definitely kept him safe and comfy: his brand-new BRITAX Pinnacle 90 car seat!  I can’t even tell you how much this boy loves his car seat!  For the first time (he’s almost 3!) he can finally hop in and out of it himself.  He’s not very fast, but it’s really cute:

And he’s so proud when he does it too.  A big plus for me since we upgraded from the Advocate 70 is the addition of the cup holders on the seat!  Well, actually, I might take that back because I’ve found Goldfish cracker crumbs everywhere since we installed the new seat!

BRITAX Pinnacle 90

As a traveling mom, there’s nothing more important to me than my child’s safety on the road and I’m happy to know that BRITAX has my back in that department!

Going to a Wedding!

You are never too old to find love.

Tomorrow I am going to a wedding!  We are packing up the family and headed for a long drive to see someone I love very much tie the knot.  My dad.

My dad & I at my college graduation.

He broke the news to us a few months ago, during a time when he was suffering pretty bad with back problems.  Although he was in pain due to his back he was happy.  He was so happy, in fact, that the whole shindig was planned in a few short weeks.  A summer wedding…aww!

Wow.  My dad.  Getting married.  Again.

I really am happy for him, but I’m just wondering how my family is going to make this trip.  You should know that we are notorious for being late.  Hard as I try, we never seem to get out the door when we intend to.  I’m still primping, or my daughter’s still straightening her hair, or my son is sleeping, or we forgot something…there’s always a reason.

But this time there’s just no excuse for being late to your father’s wedding.  Something’s gotta change.  We WILL be on time to watch my father say “I do”!  Here are a few things I’m going to do differently to make sure we don’t miss it!

Lay out all clothes the night before.  And when I say “all clothes”, I mean accessories too.  Hey – picking the right pair of earrings takes time, people!  The whole family’s outfits will be picked out, ironed, and ready for us to put them on.

Get all baby gear ready.  Diapers, wipes, change of clothes, food, drink, pacifier, toys to play (can you tell I’m making this a part of my checklist?).  We seem to always forget something for my son every time we go out.  (Oh, blankie – add another to the list.)  Having a whiny toddler is not ideal at any wedding, so making sure he stays happy is a top priority.

Sleep.  Waking up late is not an option here.  In fact, I’m going to start getting ready an hour earlier than usual – for some reason, I always underestimate the amount of time it takes for me to get ready.  If I anticipate leaving an hour earlier than planned, maybe – just maybe – we can be out the door when we need to be.

Be safe on the road.  Don’t rush – even if you are late.  Getting there late is a heck of a lot better than not getting there at all.  All that bobbing and weaving through traffic is bound to get someone hurt.  So drive safe!  No texting while driving.  Make sure everyone is wearing a seatbelt.  (Lucky for us, we know baby boy will be secure in his über-safe BRITAX Advocate-70 G3 car seat – seriously, guys, this thing is a TANK!)  Don’t drive over the speed limit either – as long as you leave with plenty of time to spare, you’ll be fine.

Phew – I’m getting exhausted just thinking of all the preparations I have to make before we head out!  But I’m excited.  We’re going to a wedding, after all!

My Family Feels Safe with the BRITAX Convertible G3 Technology

When my son was born almost two years ago I never really realized how nervous I’d be while watching him play.  My daughter is now a teenager, but I don’t recall being this anxious while watching her play.  My son is all over the place – running everywhere.  Seriously, I think he skipped walking altogether and just decided he needed to get somewhere F.A.S.T.  I find myself constantly chasing after him with one hand outstretched, just waiting for him to fall.

Safety is constantly an issue inside the house.  However, thanks to BRITAX, I can rest easy knowing he is safe in the car.  My son rides in style in his Advocate-70 G3.  I already mentioned a few of my favorite BRITAX features when I visited them a few months ago, but you should also know why the BRITAX Convertible G3 Car Seat is a MUST-HAVE in our car.  Some of our favorite features include:

Versa-Tether Straps:  These straps are designed to absorb the energy of a crash impact.  My son is still in the rear-facing position so we’re lucky that our minivan has a hook on the floor to attach the tether.  The tether is an additional safety feature that was added to minimize the seat movement and help your child’s body slow down during a crash.  His seat is so secure, we know it’s not moving anywhere.

Integrated Steel Bars:  Most car seats are completely made of plastic (or at least our old one was).  My husband was especially impressed with the fact that out BRITAX seat has steel bars that strengthen the seat’s connection to the vehicle.  Plastic is more pliable than steel so I’m glad that BRITAX has incorporated another feature to minimize seat movement.

HUGS Chest Pads with SafeCell Technology:  This feature was especially important to us because with our old seat by the time we reached our destination we would notice that the chest bar had slid all the way to the base (practically sitting on his lap) instead up and over his chest.  The rubber on these chest pads ensure that the bar will remain securely over his chest.

The Cuteness Factor:  Come on…you know he looks great in his BRITAX Advocate-70 G3!  And he loves this seat too. :)
